The Virginia Tech Hokies have fired coach Brent Pry following an 0-3 start to the 2025 season, according to a statement released by the program on Sunday. Offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery will take over as interim head coach.
The decision comes after a 45-26 home loss to the Old Dominion Monarchs on Saturday afternoon.
Pry was hired by Virginia Tech ahead of the 2022 season and put together just a 16-24 record over three-plus seasons in Blacksburg, Va. Now fired, the Hokies owe the 55-year-old more than $6 million in a buyout.
A longtime defensive coach, Pry has spent time as the defensive coordinator of the Lousiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns, the Georgia Southern Eagles, the Vanderbilt Commodores, and the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Virginia Tech will welcome Wofford to Lane Stadium next Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
