The all-time great scored one and teed up five more in a 6-2 win, with those numbers on the goal contributions front being posted for the first time in MLS and by the man himself. Such heroics have become par for the course from Messi, with the bar of individual brilliance being raised to unimaginable heights.
GettyWHAT SUAREZ SAID
Uruguayan frontman Suarez – who netted a hat-trick against the Red Bulls – is fortunate enough to have worked with Messi at Barcelona and Inter Miami, and said of being in a position where feats that can appear superhuman to some barely registering on his radar: “What we saw is surprising because it hasn’t been seen before in our sport, but as a team-mate and knowing Leo, nothing surprises me because that’s the quality player he is. On the field it’s a different feeling having him as a team-mate because we know each other so well, sometimes without even looking at each other. That was another plus we had on a great night.”
WHAT NEXT FOR MESSI?
Another comprehensive win for Inter Miami has kept them at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference. They have a full week to recover before their next outing, which will see the travelling Messi roadshow roll into Canada for a meeting with CF Montreal.
