Liverpool faced their first test of the season when they took on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night.
In the past, the Reds have had some tense matches at the London ground, and it was certainly not a walk in the park against Roy Hodgson’s men.
In the end, the visitors earned a 2-0 victory, but it was not without controversy as the opening goal came from the penalty spot.
Referee Michael Oliver blew up for a foul on Mohamed Salah from Mamadou Sakho, who caught the Liverpool star but not many thought that it was a stonewall penalty.
Things got worse for Palace in the second half when Aaron-Wan Bissaka was given a straight red card for bringing down Salah as he was through on goal.
Sadio Mane rounded off a hard-fought win for the Reds on the counter-attack, but after the final whistle, Hodgson told reporters that he was convinced that his side should have won a penalty in the dying minutes.

The Independent quotes the Palace manager as saying that substitute Max Meyer was “wiped out” by Virgil van Dijk towards the end of the contest.
Plenty of Liverpool fans have been left baffled by Hodgson’s remarks.
