According to The Independent, West Ham United are preparing a January swoop for Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield.
What’s the story?
West Ham have been linked with a whole host of midfielders since the start of the winter window, with Joe Allen, Jonjo Shelvey and Francis Coquelin all said to be in the frame.
However, according to The Independent, the Hammers are currently focusing their attention on Burnley midfielder Arfield, who could be available for £2m this month.
The report claims that West Ham boss David Moyes is a huge admirer of the 29-year-old, who only has six months left to run on his contract at Turf Moor.
It would not be a surprise if two central midfielders arrived at the London Stadium before the end of this month’s transfer window, and Arfield now seems to be firmly in the frame.
Would Arfield be a good signing?
It would be fair to say that the majority of West Ham supporters would not exactly be thrilled with this particular news.
Arfield is not the household name that the fans want to see at the London Stadium, but for £2m, it could well turn out to be a very smart piece of business from the capital club.
The Canada international joined Burnley from Huddersfield Town in the summer of 2013, and is fast closing on 200 appearances in all competitions for the Clarets.
He scored once in 35 appearances in all competitions last season, and has managed two in 15 Premier League matches during the 2017-18 campaign.
Arfield might not be a star name, but he is incredibly consistent, and has played a key role in Burnley’s brilliant season to date.
His arrival would not be greeted with that much excitement, but the midfielder might be just what this West Ham team need as they look for consistency in the top flight.
