According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are interested in signing free agent Robert Huth this summer.
What’s the story?
Huth is currently available on a free transfer following his release from Leicester City, and Middlesbrough have been linked with a move for their former defender.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Villa are also seriously considering an approach for the 33-year-old as they look to replace last season’s captain John Terry.
Indeed, Terry has decided against signing a new contract with Steve Bruce’s side following their failure to secure promotion to the Premier League for the 2018-19 campaign.
Villa will have to make extensive cutbacks due to the club’s financial situation, and the likes of Jack Grealish and James Chester are expected to depart this summer.
Would Huth be a good signing?
Huth did not make a single appearance for Leicester last season due to ankle and foot injuries.

The German was outstanding during Leicester’s 2015-16 title-winning Premier League campaign, however, and there is no question that he is an outstanding centre-back when fit.
Terry struggled with the pace of the Premier League during his final season at Chelsea, but thrived at Villa last term in the Championship due to the nature of the league.
And Bruce will be hoping that Huth, who is valued at £2.3m by transfermarkt.co.uk, could bring similar traits next term.
For what he lacks in pace, the former Chelsea youngster more than makes up for in pure defensive extinct and aerial ability.
It is not a surprise that a number of Championship clubs are interested in the veteran, and it could turn out to be a very smart signing if Villa manage to pull it off.
