You have to feel for Arsenal fans.
Despite the arrivals of Petr Cech, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez over the last few windows, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger continuously refuses to spend the money required in today’s transfer market to adequately strengthen his side where it matters most.
That came to a head last summer when the Gunners were ended up being the only club in Europe not to have signed an outfit player, leading to increased frustration among the Arsenal faithful. At one point it looked like Arsenal would still go on and win a first Premier League title since 2004, and they still can, but their loss to Chelsea recently appears to have dented their title hopes.
Arsenal fans are still desperate for some transfer action in order to ensure they’re the ones lifting the trophy come May but with just a day left of the January window remaining, it doesn’t look likely.
But at one point last week it looked as if all their dreams had been answered outside the Emirates as pranksters Woody and Kleiny (teaming up with talkSPORT) came disguised as a roving reporter and Fernando Wwirst – a fictional world class player who is apparently on the verge of signing for Arsenal.
What happens next is nothing short of hilarious yet extremely embarrassing for Gunners fans, who claim on camera that Wwurst is exactly what Arsenal need this season. One guy claims to have heard a lot about him, while another hints that it could even spell the end of Theo Walcott’s Arsenal career.
So many Gunners fans are fighting to have selfies with the made up footballer, all seemingly excited to have been given a first glimpse of a rare bit of transfer business by Wenger. They’re been so deprived of transfer activity of late they’re beginning to believe just any guy on the street can be good enough to fire them to title.
There are even Chelsea fans admitting they’re gutted Arsenal beat them to Wwirst’s signature. Crazy.
