Southampton fans are keen for their team to really strengthen this summer, after enduring two seasons of struggle in a row now.
The owners simply haven’t supported the team enough, hence why the Saints have just scraped themselves away from relegation on two occasions.
Rightfully so, the fans expect more from a club that only a few seasons ago, were in the Europa League.
That sort of drastic improvement cannot be expected straight away but Southampton will at the very least, like to finish above 16th. Wouldn’t that be nice?
In a bid to help that goal become a reality, the south coast club should seriously consider giving a proper chance to Michael Obafemi when he returns from injury.
After a hamstring problem scuppered the last three months of his season, Obafemi had to make do with six Premier League appearances.
In those six Premier League appearances, though, Obafemi (who is valued at £900k on Transfermarkt) certainly impressed as he scored and got an assist.
The raw talent and pure speed he possesses are attributes that could take him very far in the game, so long as he is given a chance early on by Southampton.
Considering the Saints’ other options include Charlie Austin, Shane Long and Danny Ings, Obafemi will have to work hard to put himself in contention but could reap the rewards in the future.
At the age of just 18, the Republic of Ireland international has a very bright future ahead of him and if Ralph Hasenhuttl can recognise that, his striker woes might just go away.
Southampton fans… Would you like to see Michael Obafemi given more first-team chances next season? Let us know!
